This is the eleventh annual
Prineville Reservoir Star Party. This star party is
free to all
who attend and is usually held in late May or early June depending on
when the new moon falls.
The Prineville Reservoir Star Party is held at Prineville Reservoir State park and is located in one the darkest areas in Oregon. Prineville Reservoir State Park is actively building a dedicated astronomy site over the reservoir with magnificent views to the east, south and west. The Prineville Reservoir State Park . There are regularly scheduled "astronomy nights" at the park featuring the park's own "Big Doug" a sixteen inch Newtonian Reflector Telescope on a Dobsonian base. The astronomy nights include a talk and constellation tour by enthusiastic interpreters as well as viewing the night sky through "Big Doug" and other telescopes. The Prineville Reservoir State Park has a number of campsites available: 22 full hookup, 22 electrical, 23 tent (maximum site 54 feet); reservable boat moorage; 5 cabins (2 are rustic, 3 are deluxe).
